AAA Kicks Off Annual Traffic Safety Contest

Indianapolis, IN - Oct. 1, 2009 - AAA Hoosier Motor Club is stimulating the creativity in young people throughout much of Indiana while teaching those individuals life-saving traffic safety concepts.

From now through January 29, 2010, students in grades K-12 from all schools across Indiana are invited to participate in AAA’s 66th annual Traffic Safety Poster Contest however, only schools from within AAA Hoosier Motor Club’s Indiana territory are eligible to submit entries to the Hoosier Motor Club. Schools outside of the club’s 50-county territory are encouraged to check with their own AAA-affiliated club for details. Specifics on AAA Hoosier Motor Club territory can be found at AAA.com

Students can showcase their artistic talents and traffic safety knowledge through hand-drawn or digitally-designed posters and video public service announcements.

AAA Hoosier Motor Club offers the contest to provide instructors and students with an independently-evaluated forum for their artistic and creative efforts while encouraging critical thinking and classroom discussion about safety topics.

In addition to the contest, AAA has age-appropriate supplemental materials and lesson plans available for instructors and parents to aid in teaching students about topics such as distracted driving, seatbelt usage, bicycle safety and others.

Submissions will be judged locally on the relationship of the entry design to proper traffic safety practices, originality, creativity and execution, visual impact and relevance of the safety slogan. The area’s best entries in each age category will advance to the national judging where they will compete against nationwide submissions for a shot at more than $18,000 in prize money.

More than $600 will be awarded locally for first, second and third prize winners and three schools will be selected in a random drawing to receive a $500 prize for each school’s art department.

“Motor vehicle-related crashes continue to be the number one cause of death for children and teens,” said Greg Seiter, public affairs manager for AAA Hoosier Motor Club.  “We are committed to the communities in Indiana and to educating the public on ways to help prevent unnecessary tragedies.

“The AAA Traffic Safety Poster and Video Contest is a unique opportunity for students to communicate safety messages to their peers.”

The deadline to submit contest entries to AAA Hoosier Motor Club is January 29, 2010.
